As a NC Education Corps literacy tutor, you will work in-person in an assigned placement school at least 3 days a week, with 1-3 students for 30 minutes at a time. You will support K-3 students with their foundational literacy skills, focusing primarily on phonological awareness and phonics instruction.
Phonological awareness instruction includes:
- Awareness of words within a sentence
- Counting syllables in words
- Recognizing and producing rhyming words
- Alliteration activities
- Awareness of individual sounds within words
- Segmenting, blending & manipulating sounds through isolating, deleting, and substituting
Phonics instruction deals with printed language and includes but is not limited to:
- Letter / Sound correspondence (identify and produce letters and their sounds)
